Saturday, 21 October 2006 -- Sand Dunes and Wine Tasting

In the weekend Novespace is closed so the team takes the opportunity to explore the Bordeaux region. In the morning some braved the cold temperatures of the chateaux's swimming pool.

In the afternoon we drove to La Dune du Pyla in the Bassin d'Arcachon, the highest dune in Europe at 117 meters.

The weather was cool and overcast with lots of wind for the paragliders. A lush green forest runs all the way into the dune on one side with the ocean on the other.

After a short stay at the top, we hiked back down to enjoy lunch at a cafe within the park.

In the evening, our German contingent organized Part I of a wine tasting experiment. After purchasing 5 Bordeaux red wines with prices of 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 euros, the bottles were disguised and a ranking system was devised. The wines were ranked 1 to 5 with 1 being the top choice. Each wine was also given an individual rating from 2 negatives to 2 positives.

At the end of the tasting, the winner was determined to be the 2 euro wine. Finishing fourth was the 10 euro wine.
