Version

Currently, we have installed version 1.1N of Netscape. A beta test version of Netscape 2.0 (beta3) is also available (type netscape20 to get this version). However, this trial version will expire soon. When the final version of 2.0 comes out, we will certainly install it.

Helper applications

Netscape uses the same mechanism as MIME to determine which application should be started for which type of file.

Netscape will check a system file mailcap and a personal file .mailcap in the users home directory. Here the user can override the system choice of default applications.
