Housing Societies

These societies usually manage large numbers of flats in various parts of the town to whom you can again subscribe. These people, however, will ring when you are nearing the top of the waiting list! Again, waiting lists are rather long, so this is not available as an immediate option. Otherwise good value and good flats too.

Rijnland Makelaardij (Voorschoten)
Veurseweg 143
2251 AB Voorschoten
Tel: 071 5617940
Fax: 071 5612149
Web: http://www.rijnland-makelaars.nl
Specialise in houses and flats in the Den Haag/Leiden area. Enrollment is free, but the form is a pain to fill in since it needs employer declarations etc. Once you've done that you're enrolled and can't do anything more until they offer you a place, which can take months. They do have some nice houses at reasonable prices, and it is probably worth the wait if you've got the time.
Recently is has come to our attention that if you make clear to Rijnland Makelaardij that you are a foreign person looking for housing, they will quickly come into action. There's no need to enroll and the agents are very helpful.

Eigen Haard (Oegstgeest)
Geverstraat 63
Oegstgeest
Tel: 071 5175151
For the international worker. Fully and partly furnished flats and houses in the Den Haag/Leiden area, often on short or otherwise restricted term lease. These places are nice but are often expensive: meant for the wellpaid Shell family or Estec official on a posting to the Netherlands. No enrollment fees or forms. They produce a booklet in English `Rental Accommodation' every 1-2 weeks which can be collected (free) from their office on the Geverstraat (which is the continuation of the Rijnsburger Weg through Oegstgeest, close to the Albert Heijn).
