This document is part of a set, meant as a help when starting working at Leiden Observatory. Since some specific university entities/titles are difficult to uniquely translate and may frequently be encountered in Dutch, they are given both in English and Dutch. The Dutch terms are all typeset in slanted font when they occur for the first time.
In this document we give some information on groups providing support: the secretarial staff, personnel office, and the computer support staff. More detailed information on starting at Leiden Observatory is given in the `Starting at' document.
Please send an email to soccom@strw.leidenuniv.nl if you find anything in here be wrong or lacking.
At this point in time (May 2002) the Observatory secretaries are:
The Personnel Office (Personeel & Organisatie, or P&O) is shared with the entire faculty. They will send you information about your contract and other work related issues, such as insurance. In this information you can find the name of your contact person. For most of us, this is Mrs. Jenny Korevaar (at the time of writing, May 2002).
P&O is the contact point for any official work related issues. They will also help you in obtaining an MVV if you need one (see the `Starting at' document). They are located on the first floor of the Huygens building.
Phone: 071 527 5174
The observatory makes mostly use of Linux PCs, and some Windows 2000 machines. We cannot list extensive computer information here, instead we refer to the web pages: http://www.strw.leidenuniv.nl/it_local
The system managers are Erik Deul, David Jansen, Aart Vos and Tycho Bot.
Your arrival should have been announced to them some time before, so that a computer and an account are in place.
If you have computer problems, please use the on-line help desk to get help:
http://www.strw.leidenuniv.nl/helpdesk,
this way the work can be easily distributed over the different members of the support team. Only contact the computer workers directly (in person or by email) if there is no other way.
