Nova-ESO VLTI Expertise Centre
(NEVEC) is a joint venture between the Nederlandse Onderzoekschool Voor Astronomie
(NOVA) and the European Southern Observatory (ESO) located at
Leiden Observatory in the Netherlands, funded by the Netherlands and formulated
in a Memorandum of Understanding signed at the University of Amsterdam (UvA)
on 31 May 1999.
The mission of such an expertise centre will be:
- to accomplish tasks for VLTI
in the software and know-how development area
- to build up the expertise in
optical/infrared interferometry and to play a leading role in a second-generation
VLTI instrument
- to participate in educating astronomers in instrumental astronomy
