When the observatory openend the big dome on the central building was equiped with a 7“ (18 cm) refractor. Much smaller than Kaiser wanted, but after the building was finished, there was no money left to order a bigger instrument. In 1885 Kaisers'successor managed to buy the bigger 10” refractor which is still in the main dome. The 7“ was stored, and in 1920 given to the Bosscha obseravtory in Indonesia (then a colony).
