Allegro Messaging System
========================

The *Allegro messaging system* allows us to quickly reach all users of the
Allegro computers. It contains two main features, namely the *Login Message*
and the *E-Mail* notification for critical events.


Login Message
-----------------

The login message informs you about

* changes in the software (e.g., new CASA versions)
* maintenance

You can display the login message by simply calling ::

    $ display_messages.sh
    === Info for Allegro users ===
    05-Nov-2014: All Allegro computers successfully rebooted

.. note:: If you have sourced the default Allegro rc files (See Section :ref:`s-shell`),
          the login messages will be displayed by default every time you log in.


E-Mail
------

Critical system changes (e.g., reboots) are also announced through eMail
a few days in advance. You have then time to object, if you have important
jobs running on our computers, which cannot be delayed. Just contact us if that
happens.

Opt out from E-Mail message
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

If you do not want to be informed through email, you can opt out from that by sending a request to alma@strw.leidenuniv.nl
