Caveats, and notes on copyright
- The purpose of these WorldWide Web pages is to provide direct
access to some of my notes, to a number of the on-line resources used
in preparing the lectures, and to further material. They are not a
substitute for the lectures, and in fact, it is extremely unlikely
that you will pass the exam if you miss a lot of the lectures. These
pages do not (yet) for a complete and/or self-contained set. In
particular, most of the material covered in the textbooks or the reading material used for this course, is
not repeated in these pages.
-
Some of the information contained within these pages comes from
copyright sources. Most of these sources are pages collated from
elsewhere on the WWW. To avoid unnecessary network traffic and
frustration when the network is slow, I have sometimes created local
copies of this material. I have made modifications to some sections
to better tailor it to this course. To give due credit to the
original authors, I have also added links pointing to the sources of
this material.
The originators of these resources clearly
intended them to be widely distributed via the WWW; many of them are
press releases and other public announcements. I therefore believe
that the approach I have adopted does not breach the intentions of
copyright law. If anyone has any problem with the use of copyright
material in these pages, please contact me, and I will remove the
offending material.
- In a similar spirit,
please feel free to use the WWW pages that I have prepared for this
course. However, if you make a local copy of any of this material,
please include a credit and link to the original version.
