International House is located next to the campus of the University of
California at Berkeley at 2299 Piedmont Ave at the top of Bancroft
Way. The meeting will be held in the Gollub Homeroom, overlooking the
San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate.
Lodging: Everyone will be responsible for arranging their own
lodging. Below are a few suggestions, in order of increasing
distance to I-House. Remember that I-House is at the top of a
hill, and that further means a longer climb up the hill to
reach I-House. Otherwise, all these hotels are within walking
distance.

Durant Hotel www.hoteldurant.com

How to get there: Berkeley can be easily reached from the San
Francisco and Oakland airports, either by shuttle (BayPorter,
www.bayporter.com) or public transit (BART; get off at Berkeley
downtown station; www.bart.gov). Parking in Berkeley is expensive
and difficult.
For those of you attending the IAU meeting in Monterey starting
Monday August 29, one of the easiest ways to get to Monterey is
probably to get back to the San Francisco airport and follow the
instructions from the IAU meeting organizers on how to get to
Monterey from there.
Food: Coffee breaks will be catered at the meeting. For lunch and
dinner we will disperse to the many excellent local
restaurants. We'll probably try and arrange a group dinner on one
of the evenings -- stay tuned for information.
Weather: is usually pleasant this time of year in Berkeley, with
sunshine and temperatures between 20 and 25 degrees. As often in
the Bay Area, be prepared however for morning and evening fog and
more chilly temperatures. Rain is unlikely.
