Mappings III output files
Output file Suffix and Prefix1Description
phapn****.ph#2 This file contains the plasma properties for each model step, and the pre-ionisation conditions used
phlss****.ph#2 This is details the heating and cooling (losses) within each zone (step) that mappings takes ( in erg s-1 cm-3), and lists also the distance, temperature, electron, hydrogen and total number densities for each step.
photn****.ph#2 This is the main photoionization output file of mappings. Describes the inputs and the step by step values of the distance, step size, temperature, density, QHDH, and H ionization fraction Also contains summary of model at the end, with average ionization fractions of all elements, mean distance from source and electron temperature for all species, integrated column densities, and fluxes of 50 strongest lines.
spec****.ph#2Contains the output emission-line spectrum.
Column 1Wavelength in Angstroms (Å)
Column 2Energy (E) in electron volts (eV)
Column 3Intensity relative to H-beta=1
Column 4Species responsible for emission-line (element and ion)
Column 5Accuracy: 1=good, 2=average, 3=poor
label3****.sou Contains the final model spectrum in units of Energy (eV) versus Fnu (ergs s-1cm-2 Hz-1sr-1). Note: Two .sou and .nfn files are produced for each model run, with odd numbers (eg ****=0001) being the absorbed ionizing source plus diffuse emission, while even numbers (eg ****=0002) are diffuse (nebulae) emission only
label3****.nfnContains the final source spectrum in units of nu (Hz) versus nuFnu (ergs/s/cm^2/sr)
label3****.blnContains the initial ionization balance
Column 1Atomic number
Column 2Ionization state
Column 3Fraction of element at this ionization state
E****.ph#2 These are four files where E is the Elemental symbol (ie C for carbon). The elements to be output are chosen at input. Each file contains the ionization fractions of the element at each step (shell) through the nebula.
Column 1Outer radius of shell (cm)
Column 2Thickness of shell (cm)
Column 3Average temperature in shell (K)
Columns 4-26Fraction of element at each ionization state from I-XXVII
allion****.ph#2 Contains the ionization fraction distribution of all elements at each ionization state at each step (or shell) through the nebula. Also gives the abundance used. This is a large file and should only be output if specifically required.

  1. **** stands for a four digit number that is sequentially increased depending on what already exists in the mappings lab ie starts at 0001 for the first model, then 0002 the next etc.
  2. ph#, where # indicates the photoionization model used (ie photo5 or photo4). Replaced by sh# when shock models are run.
  3. "label" stands for the 5 character label asked for at the "output file" part of the mappings input
